Community Visitors Scheme (CVS)
The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an initiative of the Australian Government and is funded nationally by the Department of Health and Ageing.
The aim of this program is to enrich the quality of life of residents of Aged Care Homes (Nursing Homes or Aged Hostels) who have been identified as being lonely or socially isolated and might benefit from having a regular friendly visitor.
In addition, the CVS also helps to establish links between people living in Aged Care Homes and their community. This becomes even more relevant for residents who are from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background (CALD) and have limited fluency of English and therefore are faced with language barriers.
CVS currently caters for 25 nursing home residents.
The program provides a great opportunity for volunteers to get out and visit those who are socially isolated and provide friendship and companionship. The CVS Program targets Arabic and Spanish speaking residents by providing a volunteer that speaks the same language.
Community Visitors Scheme Home Visiting Program is a new initiative and targets those who are receiving a home care package. Liverpool MRC currently has 5 available places in this program.
